Holiday Ornaments
This elegant glass ornament was hand-painted by a skilled artist using special narrow brushes and pointed sticks. The painting process begins with the careful creation of an outline of the image. The artist then begins the more difficult step of slowly filling in the colors. The entire hand-painted process requires several days and the result is a beautiful and unique ornament. This technique is known as reverse glass painting and is an art form found throughout Asia. Ornament features an autumn scene of Miller Library on one side, and Colby and Est. 1813 on the other.

Made for us by the Bevin Bros. Bell Company, a sixth generation family run company based in Connecticut. Founded in 1832, they are devoted to the art and science of producing exceptional bells with a brilliant sound. Ours is a sweet sounding functional steel bell with a Colby Blue enamel finish. Colby and our Colby C logo are imprinted on one side. Hangs by a white cord loop. Bell mouth is approximately 1-1/2 inches in diameter. Made in USA.

The work cloisonné, of French origin, means to compartmentalize or create different cells and applies to both the process and the medium. To begin the process, highly trained artisans bend wire strips by hand to create the patterns within the design. These wires are then soldered onto a copper form which has been carefully molded to create the desired shape of the ornament. Each cell is inlaid with enamels, then fired at very high temperatures repeatedly, then eventually cooled, polished and 24k gold plated to create this work of art.
